Setting the Stage for Glorious Poker Victories

By Martin

Glorious poker victories — is that arrogant? Not at all. If you read my last article, then you already know how I feel about poker. It’s all about playing to win. It’s all about getting into the game. You need to make sure that you’re brushing up on poker theory at every opportunity, because it’s not like you’re going to be able to just step into anything that you want to get into. You need to have more strategy than that, little warrior.

To set the stage, you need to be able to practice scanning your opponents. Some people will not do very well at this, and they’ll have problems. But the truth is that until you know what the crowd is doing, you can’t really plan much. You have to be able to assume what other people have. Counting your outs and looking at odds is a good way to get started.

If this sounds foreign to you, don’t worry. Here’s a list of what you need to master:

Odds
Implied Odds
Counting outs
Understanding hand ranks
Pre-flop raising vs. raising on the flop

Again, these are all things that happen after you’ve practiced with them for a while. If you haven’t done your practice work, then you’re going to find yourself in over your head. I didn’t say that this journey would be easy at all. This part is why so many people don’t last in poker. Oh, they come swinging with a loot of hopes and dreams but they realize that hopes and dreams don’t carry you very far. Tons of people get mowed down in poker tournaments, even when they do have strategy.

You need to make sure that you’re mixing up your image. Someone that’s raising all of the time is creating a pattern. If you’re the chatty type that is too busy being the life of the party… STOP. You’re playing poker to make extra money and earn a reputation for being a good player, not to laugh it up during the games. If you want to tell someone they made a good play, that’s one thing. On the other hand, why telegraph who you’re watching? Being silent is honestly the best policy, as much as people hate to think about it like that.

If you’re always in the middle of the conversation, you can’t concentrate. Even though some people disagree, I don’t. I think that if you’re trying to play poker for real money, that should honestly be your focus. I didn’t say that you couldn’t get social after the game, or in the forums.

A word about forums, while I’m thinking about it — forums can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Remember that other people can and will read what you type. If you put yourself out there as a weak player, you might be surprised to find yourself a target when you cross over into the games. Likewise if you mention anything stressful that you’re dealing with. These people are going to be social, but that doesn’t always mean that they’re going to be your friends. You should see it in this light: anything that you admit can really be used against you over time. The best thing to do is be well aware of this at all times.

I know that I am giving you more than what you might be able to handle. But setting the stage for wonderful poker victories doesn’t mean that you just go in when the mood suits you. It means that you approach it as a warrior preparing for battle and nothing less than that.

A New Look At Open Faced Poker

By Martin

If you’re dreaming in about playing in the big poker tournaments, chances are good that you’re going to need to learn at least one new variant of poker. That’s where the real money is — you have to be able to play multiple types of poker at the same time with no problem. You just need to figure out where you’re going really go for the action that you crave. Our suggestion would be to definitely check out Open Faced Chinese Poker. The “big dogs” of poker already now about OFC poker, but it’s time for you to learn it. Trust us, it won’t be difficult and when other people see that you can do more than just NLTHE, they will definitely be impressed.

So let’s get into the guts of the matter. What’s so exciting about OFC poker? It’s set up a little bit differently from the poker that you might know. You’re going to get five cards instead of just two, and the person that’s left of the “button” has a big problem: their hand is face up. Of course, your hand is also face up when it gets to you. The dealer then gives you one card to get the rest of the hand in the Chinese format of 3-5-5. Your hand has to be stronger from the top all the way down to the bottom. See how this can get tricky?

Strategy is still forming for OFC poker which is why it’s getting to a lot of poker players. You have tons of sites on NLTHE, but you don’t have that many talking about OFC poker yet.

To be great, you need to pay attention to position more than you might have with the poker that you’re used to. This isn’t a game that rewards sloppy play. If anything, sloppy play can really get you killed. So what you have to make sure that happiness from this point is that you’re always looking through all of your options. Don’t get stuck just spinning your wheels, you’re better than that.

Hunting for a casino that handles OFC pokier isn’t difficult anymore. You can look this up in any casino review guide, and then head on over. If it’s a new casino that you haven’t played before, you’ll be able to get a welcome bonus for the opportunity. Why not check it out today, while it’s still on your mind?

Taking a Poker Break This Summer

By Martin

We have something painful to admit: we have to take a break from poker. It’s not that we hate poker, but we kept writing about how you need to take a break if things are getting too hot in the world of poker. Summer is where a lot of competitions come up, and we think that we would be doing ourselves a disservice if we didn’t take a step back. When you’re constantly getting into tournaments, competition is all you see. Over time, it tends to mess with your judgment. You have to sometimes look at your hands and realized that if you played less poker, you would actually make better decisions. When you feel that everything around you has to be a battlefield, then you’ll make terrible decisions. It makes a lot more sense to do the right thing by just going through your options carefully and quietly to yourself.

Are you the type of poker player that isn’t even looking at your hand history? Are you the type of poker player that isn’t estimating your opponents? If you answered yes to either of these scenarios, chances are good that you need to take a step back this summer too. It can also help you stretch your bankroll when you play less. Not everybody has the type of money to just throw around. And if you’re not making good decisions, then you’re just flushing money down the drain.

We always find that we play much better poker after taking a few weeks off. Plus, it’s summer — this is the time to really go out and have a good time. Why sit around the house when you really don’t have to? You could have a lot more fun going outside for a change. Poker is so vast that it won’t leave you — it’ll be right there where you left off. You can’t go wrong with taking a poker break. It leaves you with the opportunity to get so much more done if you could just focus a little bit more than you are right now.

And we’re not even saying that you need to get out of the world of gambling. But you might want to make it a goal to look at playing something other than poker. With so many advertisements for poker around the Web, you might feel like poker’s the only game worth playing. But that’s not the case at all. As long as you’re truly looking at all of your options, there’s no way that you’re going to be bored. There is a very wide world of action waiting for you, so why not check it out for yourself? You’ll truly be glad that you did!

Have You Considered Playing War

By Martin

If you’re looking for other casino games to play than poker, you’ve come to the right guide. We’re always looking at the latest and greatest in the world of casino gambling, and we had to talk about War. Yes, it’s really like the card game that you probably played as a kid with the others on the playground. Even though you probably weren’t allowed to have a deck of cards during class, you couldn’t wait to play with the other students at recess. War at the casinos is offered in roughly the same format that you’re used to: you get one card to beat the dealer with! There’s a big chance that you’ll beat the dealer, and the payout for War is pretty awesome — it can be as high as 98.5%!

Now, you might assume that you’re going to be able to just count cards and beat the dealer that way. It’s not going to be that easy. This game online uses multiple decks that are constantly shuffled. This is to defeat card counters. While it’s not illegal to card count with your own brainpower, the reality is that you aren’t going to want to do that at all. You really need to make sure that you’re going to be able to just play.

The way you play War is pretty easy. The cards that go from 2 to 10 are worth exactly what they say they’re worth. The royal cards get a little more interesting, but you should still be able to keep up OK. The Jack is going to be 11 points, while the Queen is worth 12 points. The mighty King is worth 13 points and the Ace is considered to be 14 points. As you can see, if you get an Ace, the game is over — you win!

What makes the game so interesting is that you have an option to go to War if you get a tie. However, you might not always want to go to War — you have to put down more money equal to the amount that you initially put down. So if you placed down 50 pounds, you have to make another 50 pound bet in order to go to War. You might find that this is more money than you’re willing to really risk. Folding makes you forfeit the money that you put up, but it prevents you from losing more. It just depends on your playing style. It’s an even money wager, which means that you’re going to be able to still just play without much effort.

Going to war in this case means that not only do you need to put up that extra money, you get three cards dealt to both yourself and the dealer. Those cards are dealt face down as “burn cards”, while that last card determines the outcome. If you get a higher fourth card than the dealer, then you win. But if you don’t…you lose both stakes! Ouch!

War can be more exciting than you think, but you are going to find that you still have to take action to find it. Not every casino has it, but you usually can see a casino’s game list at a glance. War is fun because you’ll know where you stand quickly, and there is a chance to make money.

Don’t Stress – Pot Limit Omaha Is What You’re Looking For!

By Martin

Okay, it’s definitely time to get serious about poker again, and we’re not going to be talking about No Limit Hold’Em right now. That’s right, there’s a big poker world outside of NLHE, and it’s about high time that you discovered it. It’s not the end of the world if you want to keep playing NLHE, but we figured that we’d give you something fresh for a change.

This brings us immediately to Pot Limit Omaha. It’s a game that truly earns a special place in our hearts, for a lot of reasons. It has a lot on common with NLHE, which means that you can pick up the game easily. Both types of poker are community card games, so you have a chance to really get into some action. If there’s time in your schedule of poker, playing PLO (Pot Limit Omaha) definitely makes sense.

One thing you’ll need to keep in mind when it comes to PLO is that you get 4 cards instead of two. You must make a winning hand with two cards from your hand and three from the board. This can be a lot trickier than you might expect.

Strategy is going to be a bit different, because you have to get into the flow of a different variation. The general recommendation would be to play heads up PLO because it means that you’re going to have to look at what your opponent is doing. It’s tempting to go into “battle” with the usual 6-max game, but that’s a bad way to go about it. You need to think about having to play much tighter, looking at what possibilities could be there.

The biggest switch is going to be looking at all of your cards, not just the first two that look good. If you can get out of the NLHE mindset on this front, then you’re going to be playing much better PLO. You also can’t just go all in and bully your opponent, which might take away from the sizzle with PLO for some people. If anything, take this as a sign that you need to stop randomly going AI and start looking at poker in more strategic terms. Trust us, you can be intimidating in PLO without going all limit. Good luck!

Tips on Beating Other Players at the Online Casino

By Martin

Everyone likes the idea of winning at the casino, but not everyone can win. The casino will always make sure that the games are set up so that they can make a profit. However, if you play against other people, then there will always be a person that wins as well as the casino taking some of the money. This may be something that you prefer to try, but it is worth following some tips to maximise your chances of winning some money.

Practice first

It is a good idea to make sure that you practice before you play a game online for money. It may be a game that you have played a lot before. However, if you have never played it online before, then it can be a good idea to have some free games online before you pay to play. This will give you experience of playing online as it can be different to playing normally. If there is a free room on the site you intend to play on, even better. You will get experience of playing in that specific room.

Check the rules

It is a good idea to find out what the rules are of the game before you play. You may be familiar with how to play the game normally but you should check to see whether the online version is the same or different. It may have some special rules or just a slight variation. Some casinos, such as http://www.casinomidas.com.au/ may have different rules to another one. [Read more…] about Tips on Beating Other Players at the Online Casino
